Unapologetically downbeat and somehow soothing at the same time, warm acoustic instrumentation and Ford’s mellow, almost whispered voice contribute to something that feels very honest and human. During his time in Glasgow he was involved in various musical projects and often got together with fellow songsmith Jamie Flett sometimes to play, sometimes to work. He it was who bullied Ford into allowing him to try recording the songs here as a means of catharsis at a particularly difficult time but neither seemed absolutely satisfied with the results, the sound and the sentiments perhaps both too raw then to live with. Not to be deterred, during a fallow period in his own writing Flett returned to these recordings and discovered much to love. By this time somewhat more objective not to mention more experienced in recording and mixing he set about extracting the best from what are heartfelt performances in order to do his friend’s efforts justice.
